Lovefilm was a UK based provider of DVD-by-mail and streaming video on demand. We worked with the in-house team to refine their website design, improve navigation and user experience.

Apropos- helped to develop a graphic DNA as part of the ongoing evolution of the Lovefilm website with art director Ben Anthonisz and Simon Waldman, head of product (Gareth had previously worked with Simon on the Guardian website at Research Studios). Lovefilm was looking for fresh design ideas. We looked at grids and layout options, typography, graphic elements and their impact on user experience working at the Lovefilm offices and with Ben at our studio.

Acquired by Amazon in 2011, Lovefilm had reached 2 million subscribers. It also claimed over 70,000 titles, and over 4 million DVD, Blu-ray or game rentals per month in five countries. Lovefilm quickly became the leading online DVD rental and streaming outlet in the UK and Europe. In February 2014, Amazon announced that Lovefilm’s streaming service would be folded into its Instant Video service.
