OPEN STUDIO 08.06.10

This coming Saturday we’re turning the front two rooms of our house into a gallery – at 59 High Street, Saffron Walden, 10am – 4.30pm. Michelle will be selling her collages – originals and limited edition prints, including a new screen print by Up The Arts and a giclee/screen print by Jealous Print Studio. I’ll have copies of BUS STOP – my Curwen print of Walden Hight Street and the first run of LIGHT TRAFFIC ONLY, white tea towels and mugs decorated with the black type found on white village signposts. We’ll be adding news and images as they become available over the next few days, and updating live on the day via Twitter (follow @gareth_wild and/or @mich_tom). Also holding a not so Private View on Thursday evening from 7.30pm.

BUS STOP – Gareth Wild

Limited Edition produced at the Curwen Print Studio
Signed and numbered edition of 35
Four colour lithograph on 350gsm Somerset paper
85 x 65cm (paper size) with deckled edge
£150 (unframed)

This is the first in a series of homeware and gift products. Grids of town and village names taking the typography found on traditional white village sign posts. Older signs are cast in steel, later versions rivet individual metal letters onto wooden posts. The signs are slowly disappearing – they are vandalised, buried in hedges, destroyed in car accidents and inevitably replaced with their modern equivalent. The designs are reminiscent of trays of letterpress type and tag clouds. The first designs are a 100% cotton tea towel and earthenware mug.
