To the Royal College of Art for class mate Xavier Pick’s talk about his work as an official war artist in Iraq. Xavier worked in documentary at college, driving an ambulance in Bosnia over the Christmas holiday in 1995/6. He also recorded the M11 protest in Hackney and travelled to Lebanon to research his family history and record the city. He keeps everything in detailed sketch books, a mixture of notes, conversations, observations and drawings. He also records on film and with photographs. He then combines these references into large scale detailed compositions. This BBC film explains.
